Made in hammered calfskin or crocodile print, it has a snakeskin or contrasted color leather handle, for an unpredictable design. Lined in suede, it’s a product trimmed and polished to every last detail. Every bag is unique and meant to provide an exclusively styled outfit to every customer.
I named it Giulia. Like most of my bags, it borrows its name from a place in Rome particularly dear to me, which I think is the ideal frame for a creation of mine. Via Giulia is a whole kilometer of history and art, that goes from Ponte Sisto to Largo dei Fiorentini, following a path parallel to the Lungotevere. Along its track, every palace or church is an example of fine architecture and holds many works of art; the elegance of the façades, fountains and its characteristic glimpses make it what is considered by many as the most beautiful road in Rome.
What makes it unique is that, if the incredible patrimony of art and culture and the private affairs that the buildings keep in custody could be suddenly made visible by a magic spell, via Giulia could easily be considered one of the biggest treasure exhibits in the world. Despite the disturbance caused by the construction of massive walls nearby the Tevere [river], via Giulia still preserves all of its charm intact: the road follows the original 1500’s path and the buildings keep the memory of the decorations that embellished their façades.
A cherished elegance via Giulia has been flaunting up until today. In the 1500s, the architect Bramante left a project uncompleted, one that unbeknownst to him would turn out to be a peculiar decor of the road, something like a gift, quite appreciated by modern Romans and by the many tourists that crowd it everyday. He should have built an enormous palace meant to host Rome’s tribunals. He could only lay the foundations of the formidable structure, foundations that can still be seen sticking out of the houses above them and that ended up functioning as comfortable seats. They’re the “via Giulia sofas” which I often sat upon during hot summer nights, like in a real roman lounge.

Ultima nata in casa LaBonin, Giulia è una borsa grande e spaziosa da portare prevalentemente a mano, anche se è possibile indossarla a spalla grazie alla tracolla removibile. Un design classico rivisitato e impreziosito dai dettagli in pelle di serpente per un outfit ideale per il giorno. Realizzata in due taglie per soddisfare anche le amanti delle borse big size come me.
In pelle di vitello martellato o in stampa coccodrillo ha un manico in serpente un altro in pelle in un colore a contrasto per un design per nulla scontato. Rifinita all’interno in pelle scamosciata è un prodotto curato in ogni dettaglio. Ogni borsa è unica e per assicurare un outfit esclusivo a ogni mia cliente.
L’ho chiamata Giulia. Come la maggior parte delle mie borse, prende un nome da un luogo di Roma a me particolarmente caro e che ritengo sia la cornice ideale per una mia creazione. Via Giulia è un chilometro di storia e arte, che va da ponte Sisto a largo dei Fiorentini, seguendo un percorso parallelo al lungotevere. Per tutto il suo tracciato ciascun palazzo o chiesa è un esempio di architettura e racchiude numerose opere d’arte; l’eleganza delle facciate, delle fontane e i suoi scorci caratteristici ne fanno quella che da molti viene considerata la strada più bella di Roma.
La cosa che la rende unica è che se per qualche magico incanto l’incredibile patrimonio d’arte e di cultura e le vicende private che i palazzi custodiscono al loro interno, diventassero improvvisamente visibili all’esterno, via Giulia si trasformerebbe in una delle più grandi esposizioni di tesori al mondo.
Nonostante gli sconvolgimenti causati dalla costruzione dei muraglioni sul Tevere, via Giulia conserva ancora intatto tutto il suo fascino: la strada segue infatti lo stesso percorso del 500 e i palazzi conservano memoria delle decorazioni che ne abbellivano le facciate. Un’ eleganza che via Giulia continua a mantenere ancora oggi. L’architetto Bramante nel 500 lasciò incompiuto un progetto che sarebbe divenuto a sua insaputa un singolare arredo della strada, una sorta di regalo molto gradito ai romani e ai numerosi turisti che la affollano ogni giorno. Doveva infatti costruire un enorme palazzo che avrebbe ospitato tutti i tribunali di Roma. Della poderosa struttura poté solo gettare le fondamenta, che ancora oggi si vedono sporgere così in fuori dalle case soprastanti da costituire dei comodi sedili. Sono i “Sofà di via Giulia” di cui ho spesso approfittato nelle calde serate estive come un vero e proprio salotto romano.
